The month is July, which means another Racing Month is upon us, and this time there will be more than four games featured. There won’t be any personal stories being the main point of those featured, but some will still be featured - mostly with the experiences articles. And one of those is set to be coming with Wreckfest.
There’s other articles coming, with a return to a concept of mine from two years ago. Zincite Storm Cup was a story I’d written back in 2012 that wasn’t much of an engaging tale. But when crafting this concept, I borrowed plenty from it for the foundations of the idea. One which was to combine the racing and RPG genres. That concept focused a bit too much on the racing side of that balance, so I’m returning to it to balance the scales and bring a bit more RPG to this combination of the two. Most of the core will stay the same, but I’ll be bringing some changes that allow more elements of an RPG to be visible within it.

With June, there’s usually a big event lasting a week that brings a lot to talk about. This year is different, though. The current pandemic owing to COVID-19 has put a lot of events on hold. With E3 being one of those events, plenty of smaller digital events have sprung up to give such announcements. So many have started appearing that it feels impossible to keep track of them all, and not all of them are within June.
There’s an event in a few days revealing more about the PS5 and the games that will be coming to it, which should provide a decent look at some multi-platform third party offerings to go with those Playstation exclusives. There’s EA’s event, keeping close to when E3 would have been, and a Ubisoft event in July. Microsoft should be revealing more with their next 20/20 event, and Nintendo are more than likely just going to drop announcements when they need to. The first thing I’ll touch on this month is a bit of a change with how my social media is managed. I think if you’ve been on either Facebook or Twitter, you’ll have seen how much nothing they are except for the links to content on this site. While I want to promote the content I put out, I don’t want them to just be doing so.
As such, I will be posting a bit more often with topics that don’t have links attached. Sometimes they might be related to topics within my articles, and other times being just things I want to talk about that I feel don’t need an article. Hello to all. During March, a few articles were delayed, as was the next addition to Pokémon: Shadow Boom. These delays come with a reason. All of them will be delayed into May. For Shadow Boom, that allows the final few chapters to be spread out across the month, with the epilogue within June. For the articles, it’s simply a case of holding back some content for after Star Wars Month.
Yes, it is Star Wars Month once again, but this year things are a bit different. While there will be a Celebration this year, it is not in the month of April. Instead, the Anaheim 2020 Celebration is being held in August. That kind of makes it a Star Wars Month Part 2, but April will still be full of Star Wars content, as I’ve got some ideas planned for it. Hello there, and welcome to a new era in the history of DarkRula Media. February saw everything from the Blogger site make its way here, and now everything is within the relevant section of this site. Some of the things might not be where you expect them, but there’s reasoning behind such.
I am talking mostly of the Core Franchises articles, that dive into more than just games of those franchises, yet currently sit within the Gaming section of the site. The reasoning for such is that I was introduced to all three franchises through their games, so it felt right to put them there. Then there’s a recent article of Highlights of DarkRula Media’s 2019, which sits in the Stories section, under a category of Label History. Reliving history is a story in itself, so it felt right to put it there. And even if there’s a History section on this site, such a category could see more use in the future. This will be the last Monthly Update you’ll be seeing, at least in this form. In fact, this month will be the last you’ll be seeing content added to here. None of this is going away, but instead migrating back to my website.
Back in 2014, I had two Weebly sites. One for stories and one for the little used blog. However, I decided to migrate to using Blogger as it afforded an ease of access I felt I didn’t have at the time with Weebly. Times change, and my website had already done so in 2017. Gone were the stories from it, instead being used as a showcase of all that I do. But the blog was separate from it, being hosted on Blogger. Despite efforts to link them closely together, I felt it hasn’t been that successful. Which is why a migration is happening again. All the posts that are here [on Blogger] won’t be going anywhere but will be posted over to my website throughout this month. A Happy New Year to you all! 2019 was a great year, with 2020 already proving to be another great one. The reason for that won’t be appearing for a few days yet, but it does allow me to lead into the overall view of this year.
I’m looking to expand my output on this site by talking more about games I’m playing and the things I do within them. What I’m Waiting For does do that with certain few games, but never in enough detail. Indeed, the latest posted one looked at Jedi: Fallen Order and Daemon x Machina, but those were just two games out of the more than twenty I’ve played in 2019. There were a few first impressions posts last month, with the unannounced one being Mario and Sonic at the Olympics Tokyo 2020. Along with the post, I showed off a few of the events in a video. This one was a fun game, so I couldn’t pass on the chance to talk about it.
I also covered Farming Simulator 19, as I’m really enjoying the series, and even went as far as calling the series one of my favourites. Now, I didn’t give a video for it, as I realised how dull that would have been without commentary. The two that I did announce were Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Pokémon Shield. Both of these had post and video to show them off and give my thoughts. And this idea of post and video continues this month. October saw a slight change of plans in terms of the GTA map showcased, but it still offered a concept of what an area within the GTA-verse could look like.
While I’m not entirely certain when the map based on Michigan will see a reveal (there’s a lot of detail within this one), it will still be within one of these next two months. I talked a bit more about Pokémon Sword and Shield, just giving out a few more of my thoughts before this month where the first impressions post will be released for both Shield and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. And while not technically a first impressions post, I did talk about Farming Simulator 2017 and the reasons for me taking a dive into the series. September saw two videos relating to Star Wars Battlefront and the new content that had arrived for the game, with the refreshed version of Capital Supremacy and Instant Action being played. The month also had the release of my new ebook The Future Adventures of Halesowen, with a second preview being posted as well as the release post.
New stories are set to come, and while there won’t be any new ebook releases this year, I do plan on using Wattpad a bit more. New chapters of Pokémon: Shadow Boom will be continuing to appear on the 15th of every month, but there’s a little extra I’m planning for Shorts of the Rula and Alternate Extras of Halesowen throughout these next three months. |
